Kregel Windmill Factory Museum

Kregel Windmill Factory Museum – Renovation

The Kregel Windmill Company operated as a commercial enterprise for 88 years in the same one-story building in Nebraska City, Nebraska from 1903 until 1991. The buildings uniqueness lies in that it is a time capsule, housing manufacturing tools and artifacts from as far back as 1902.

Berggren Architects accepted the challenge of preserving the space to the period of significance, 1939.  To preserve the original factory interior and building, a new shell will encapsulate the side walls and roof. The historical front façade will be restored and remain exposed to the public. New fire sprinklers, HVAC equipment, and an electrical system will be installed in the museum to properly condition the space and protect the artifacts. The house next door will be equipped with accessible restrooms, and will be renovated to preserve the structure and aid in the museum operations.
